Haiti project
Providing food and supplies to abandoned children in Haiti and the orphanages that support them.
June 2011 | Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Sai Maa's global community, in partnership with House of Gaia non-profit and The New Life Children’s Home, traveled to Port-au-Prince, Haiti to participate in a project to feed the hungry in Haiti. Since the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 there is a tremendous need for caring for the orphaned children and families that lost everything or what little they had in the earthquake. Food and supplies were donated to 100 orphaned children living in an orphanage supported by New Life Children, bags of beans and rice and cooking oil were distributed to over 50 families living in tent cities and food was served to orphaned children living in various parts of the city.
The New Life Children’s Home was founded by Myriam Frederick and has been operating for the past 35 years. This center has served as a rescue center, orphanage, clinic, and a school for Haitian children who have been abandoned. With over 40 nurses, teachers and nannies New Life not only physically heals the children but allows them to grow towards a productive tomorrow. Myriam has dedicated herself not only to her children, the 100 orphans living under her care, but also to those children less fortunate who have no family and no basic shelter. Myriam and her staff travel into the city of Port-au-France and its outskirts caring for the orphaned children as well as families living in the tent cities. Myriam supplies food, clothing and medical care for all those she can manage to touch. |

Testimonials
The founder and director of New Life Children’s Home, Myriam Frederick, is an extraordinary example of Divine Love in Action. She’s been doing seva in Haiti for 35 years, she speaks Creole and knows the people. In her orphanage of about 100 children, she provides food, medical care, education and spiritual teachings. Her devotion is such an inspiration. She has deeply transformed so many children’s lives. She always speaks of God, of the Love of God coming through each one of us. She full-heartedly follows her soul’s calling as she joyfully says with knowingness: “It’s not just about us, you know?” |
