Each year Just One sponsors a feeding program in conjunction with the education program offered by our partner ASMITA. The programs are held in a large park in SIgra, near the ASMITA offices. ASMITA brings representatives from many of their slum areas to participate in the programs, using the day both as a way to recognize the girls and for the girls themselves to create a show and show their skills.
For this special program a stage was erected in the park and the girls performed dances and sang songs - both as groups and as solo performances. A street play was also presented for its educational qualities, and special guests from 2 universities of Varanasi made short speeches. Throughout the program it was emphasized that girls should never feel neglected or less privileged than others and that girls need to receive education, if they are to become equal partners in Indian society.
After the completion of the presentations, all the girls enjoyed a meal provided by Just One. This meal consisted of puri (fried Indian bread), a mixed vegetable curry and a banana. After this the excited girls were driven back to their homes to share what they had learned.
